What is this space in-between?
Something to read while you drink your coffee, inclusive of philosophical ramblings about my own life and musings about life from someone who works with death and it's impact.
The start
There isn’t really a place to do all of the above without Facebook followers switching off, LinkedIn pals becoming increasingly concerned for your welfare, and family asking you to maybe not share that over the dinner table... that’s where this Substack comes in.
Each week, I’ll be sharing my thoughts and stories about life. All with a tad of philosophy sprinkled in and with the twist of death added at the end. Each post will start with… the start (an idea, an experience, a story) and move to this space in-between and finally The End… of this Substack but also of everything and the impact on The Space In-between.
This Space In-between
You could argue that the above is relatively pointless, and to that, I say, you are probably correct.
With over 6 years in the funeral sector, the honest answer is life is too darn short to hold back.
I’ve seen death come prematurely to babies, newly married couples, and parents leaving behind their young children. I’ve also seen death arrive in its “usual and accustomed” timing… and also when it arrives (by society's standards) astonishingly late, with adults well into their hundreds!
You might be putting off something, just because it may only bring you joy… the truth is, it’s still worth doing because you are running out of time to do it.
Enter, this blog-thing. Will I have thousands of hits…probably not…does it matter? Read on to find out.
The End
To quote the fantastic philosophers (or band) Linkin Park…
In the end, it doesn’t really matter
In time, this blog, along with everything I have ever worked on and my existence will end. For some reason, I find the idea of the world having a clean slate rather comforting. We can get into why that is in a later post (hey! Maybe you should subscribe so you can read it?).
The space I leave behind when I leave this place will be filled by someone, who can (hopefully) stand on the shoulders of those who came before them, to make this world a better place.
